This walkthrough connects Comink to a Synology NAS over SMB (Windows file sharing). The same general steps work for QNAP and most other NAS brands — only the screens on the NAS side will look a little different.
1. Prepare the share on your Synology
- On your Synology, open Control Panel › File Services and make sure SMB is turned on.
- In Control Panel › Shared Folder, create or pick a shared folder that contains your comic files (CBZ, CBR, CB7, ZIP, RAR, 7z, PDF, EPUB, MOBI or AZW3 all work).
- Make sure the user account you plan to use in Comink has read access to that shared folder (Control Panel › User & Group).
- Note down three things: your NAS’s local IP address or hostname (Control Panel › Network), the shared folder name, and the username/password you’ll sign in with.
2. Add the source in Comink
- Open Comink and go to Sources.
- Choose Add Source and select SMB.
- Enter your NAS’s address (for example
192.168.1.10ornas.local), the share name, and your username and password. - Save. Comink will connect and show the folders and comic files inside that share.
3. Reading and tips
- Comink reads archives directly over the network — there’s no need to copy or convert files first.
- If the connection fails, double-check that your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV is on the same local network as the NAS (or connected to it through a VPN), and that the port used by SMB isn’t blocked by a firewall.
- For NAS boxes reachable outside your home network, WebDAV is usually a more reliable choice than SMB — see the WebDAV option in Add Source if your NAS supports it.
- You can add multiple sources (NAS, Komga, Kavita, cloud drives) and switch between them from the same Sources screen.
More guides — for Komga, Kavita, OPDS and cloud drives — are on their way.
